DC-15S

Got my DC-15S "Shortie" today, thanks to Greedo.

Its made of wood and PVC. It came weathered with silver but I started right away adding rust. As someone on the message boards said, "Gree don't work on no Death Star!" In the military if you work in a station that is high profile and has lots of big formations with high ranking officers all your gear has to be perfectly shiny and clean like it just came out of a box.

In t he field things get used, wet and dirty. In the long run, a little dirt is ok. It adds to the camouflage.

If you click the image you can see a closer up view of the rust. Its subtle but it looks better in person.

Later I may add a bit more silver so that the weapon stands out better in pictures.

Question my judgment if you will, but I have always hated my toy guns having the red safety things in the barrel. I used to drill them out as a kid so my guns looked real. I did the same with this one. It didn't have the red ring, but the hole wasn't very deep. I could just imagine it ruining the magic for some little kid.

"Look ma its a clone! Oh, wait... his gun is fake..."

I know people worry about the cops shooting at them while they troop, but I cant imagine a cop shooting Commander Gree because his weapon looks real. Seriously, there is no operational gun that looks anything like a clone blaster. I have seen cops walk up, drool over the weapons and ask to play with them. LOL

Of course that's what it all boils down to. "We" love playing with weapons.

Trimming - First Round

I started off on my armor by marking out the areas where the extra material needed to be removed. After figuring most things out, I started removing the material with my dremel tool. I cut just shy of the sharpie so that there was room for error.

Unfortunately, not all the lines were clear enough leaving me guessing on where the cut line should be. In those cases I used the cut line where the least material was removed. Other pieces I have abandoned until I can get a second opinion.

You can see below the discrepancy in my 2 lines.

After getting things rough cut, I used my files and sand paper to clean things up.

I'm nowhere near done with this step. Its going to take some time to get the basic trimming done and then there will be additional trimming when I begin to fit things to my size.

Build Day 1 - Hello World

Today marks the official day 1 of my build. I have done my reading and researching, my networking and contacting, and pre-ordering things that are available.

For the record, this build is movie based Phase II Gree, aka. the Revenge of the Sith version that tries to kill Yoda.

People who realize the magnitude of this build have questioned my sanity and my reasoning for doing this rather than some basic storm trooper or white clone. The answer is that my wife wants me to build Gree. Need I any more reason than that? I quote her in saying, "Honey, I want you to be a clone... but you have to be an individual!"

Today I stopped off at Wal-Mart and picked up some clone armor. Darren Wright is the current producer of the Clone 6 line of armor. He was nice enough to meet me and pass off the set he had pulled for me. Below are the package contents in their rough form.

In order to really call it a build day I had to take some time and clean up the edges of the resin pieces. The floor was a mess and I will have to vacuum before I get in trouble.* :P

Below are my NOMEX flight gloves. They are quite comfortable and will go well under my hand backs.

Last collected item is my green motorcycle face shield that I will cut up to be the lens inside the helmet. I may also be able to use it in creating Gree's Macrobinoculars. (Yes, I realize that saying words like "macrobinoculars" in conversation makes me sound like a Trekkie).

* For the record, I have never gotten in trouble for tooling in the living room. My wife is gracious enough and wouldn't want you to think she was a pain.
